I don’t know about you, but once there’s a bit of a chill in the air or September hits (whichever comes first), I’m ready for all things Fall! I love the smells, the decorations, the weather, the football, all of it. But mostly, I love all things pumpkin and I’ve found the perfect combination of ingredients that meld together so well to mimic the creamy, yummy taste of pumpkin pie in the form of a pumpkin pie smoothie. The best part of it is that it doesn’t contain any of the unhealthy ingredients so you can drink it every day, guilt-free! Plus, it’s much easier to make!

Ingredients & Their Benefits
Milk. I usually use organic almond milk as a base for our smoothies, but I’m not opposed to raw cow milk. I’m personally not a fan of oat milk for a couple reasons. First, oats are a crop that is heavily sprayed with pesticides, often glyphosate, which is well known to be cancer-causing. But even if you have organic oat milk, oats are a food that can cause your blood sugar to spike quickly, making it an unhealthy option. But you do you, and choose the milk your family prefers.
Banana. You want to add half of a frozen banana to the smoothie to make it creamy and cold. A banana will also give it a touch of sweetness so there won’t be a need to add a sweetner unless you prefer a very sweet smoothie. Then you can add in a touch of honey or maple syrup.
Pumpkin Puree. Be sure to choose pumpkin puree as opposed to pumpkin pie filling. They are often right next to each other on the grocery store shelf. The filling has added sugar and spices, and we want to keep this smoothie healthy and we will be adding our own spices to it!
Pecans. If you’re not a nut-free family, this is a great addition. I love adding raw organic nuts to smoothies when I can because they are full of vitamins, healthy fats, and protein. Ingesting ground nuts (and seeds) assist in the body’s ability to absorb the nutrients from them. Pecans in particular are great for heart health, lowering A1C and the omega-3’s have anti-inflammatory properties. They are a little powerhouse nut and are a tasty addition to this smoothie!
Cinnamon. Cinnamon is an amazing spice and I’d encourage you to add it anywhere you can in your meals! Two of its greatest benefits are that it is helpful at regulating blood sugar, and it contains antioxidants that help protect cells and the heart from damage from free radicals. There are so many more benefits and it’s a great addition to smoothies and warm drinks, amongst other things.
Pumpkin Pie Spice. This spice is going to really give your smoothie those fall vibes! It’s usually a blend of 5 spices: cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice and cloves. Each of these spices on its own has amazing health benefits and together, create a dynamo spice blend! Just a few of the benefits are digestive health, antioxidant properties, healthy blood sugar and immune system support. This spice is key to adding that fall flavor to your pumpkin pie smoothie!
Optional Add-In’s
Protein Powder. I use a vanilla protein powder to give the smoothie a boost of protein when I want to use it as a meal replacement. The added benefit of the particular protein powder I’m using is that it contains very few ingredients but is made with a superfood protein blend that includes mushrooms which are so good for you. They boost the immune system, improve blood sugar, reduce fatigue and depression, and have anti-cancer properties and more.
Collagen. I try to get a scoop of collagen daily not just for the gut & bone health benefits, but also for the hair growth. I used this collagen when I was in the throes of postpartum hair loss and immediately noticed my hair starting to grow and thicken back up.
So next time you’re thinking of the next pumpkin spiced thing you can enjoy, try this pumpkin pie smoothie out. It’s so easy and so delicious and a great way to start the day. Plus, it’s kid friendly and has lots of healthy ingredients! Happy Fall Ya’ll!
